Connecticut Food Bank (CFB)
is a private,
nonprofit organization whose mission is to alleviate
hunger. We strive to do this by supplying food products
and resources to eligible programs throughout our
service area in Connecticut, and by promoting public
awareness about the problem of hunger.

Who We Help
CFB provides food to 650 food- assistance programs such as soup kitchens, shelters, food pantries, and adult and child day care centers in six of Connecticut's eight counties: Fairfield, Litchfield, Middlesex, New Haven, New London and Windham. How We Do It
CFB works with corporations, community organizations, and individuals to solicit, transport, warehouse and distribute donated food. Hundreds of food drives are held throughout the year to benefit CFB.
The majority of food donations come from the food industry. They donate products that are wholesome but that might have some cosmetic flaw and so will not sell. In this way, CFB reduces food waste and feeds people.
What does CFB save from going to waste?
- Dented cans, crumpled boxes and other edible food with damaged packaging
- Products from manufacturers that are mislabeled or incorrectly packaged
- Surplus crops that the grower cannot afford to pack, ship and sell
- Over-produced products that exceed consumer demand
